The morning shouts…. The evening shouts….. and so do I!

A January morning reflection on Psalm 65:5-8

Who even is a God like You? A God who answers us with awesome and righteous deeds?  As David said, You are our God who saves us, the God who is our hope, the God who establishes mountains, and stills the roaring of seas, waves and people — there truly is none like You!

v. 5 By awesome deeds You answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, v.6 the One who by His strength, established the mountains, being girded with might; v.7 who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples, v.8 so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at Your signs.  You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

IMG_1490I marvel that David, who in his time period would’ve seen and known the Mediterranean Sea and the Sea of Galilee, speaks so knowledgeably of the “ends of the earth”.  I marvel, Lord, that You gave him a wisdom to write of marvels beyond himself!  He knew there was world beyond his world and You are their hope!  He knew that the mountains were established by Your strength!  He knew that You are a God who calms — be it seas, waves, or people!  He knew that You do all this so that those who dwell at the “ends of the earth” would be in awe of You!  And I am!

IMG_4672Undoubtedly young David of Judah couldn’t have even imagined me….  in America — across the Atlantic Ocean — in the mountains of E.TN — in the year 2020!  He couldn’t have imagined — but You could’ve — and did!  Thank You, Lord, for how You give a wisdom beyond ourselves!

Israel 2019 with Bahama BaptistI pray for those who look at Your awesome deeds — the deeds of Your morning going out as it shouts for joy, Your evening going out as it shouts for joy, Your majestic mountains, the way You — only You — still the roaring of the seas and waves and the tumult of the people.  It’s You — it’s all You — answering us with Your righteousness, answering with salvation and hope for all the ends of the earth and farthest sea.  It’s all You!

May the people of 2020 who occupy Your world know this as David knew it when he wrote this Psalm so very many years ago; as I know it sitting here in Johnson City, TN on an early morning in January.  Your morning will be going forth, shouting for joy, here in a bit!  I shout, too — filled with joy over the HOPE that is YOU!IMG_4105

    1. I loved your last line, speaking of David….. “He had God and that was enough.” It’s been such a blessing reading thru the Psalms! I don’t think I had ever really read slowly enough through them to actually think about David as a person! (That picture with the foamy waves was from our trip to Ormond! You probably have some pictures very similar to it! What a magnificent place to ponder the majesty of God!)

  1. The beauty of this world can have us praising God all day long if we would let it. Sometimes when I’m outside at night looking up at the stars (taking the dog out one more time!) I am overwhelmed by how small I am and how big God is and yet, He LOVES me! I also think when I see the beauty around us how AMAZING heaven will be! Our finite minds just cannot fathom that! 💕

    1. Well said….. We can tend to “admire earth” as if this is all there is! But you’re right…. if THIS world is this beautiful, can’t you just imagine how amazing heaven will be! (Reminds me of your quote from your recent blog…. “Very often we keep our eyes on the wrong world – this finite world we are currently living in – instead of the eternal one that is coming.”)
